Defibrillator’s Fitted Into CWS Welfare Units

At CW Surfacing safety matters and the health and wellbeing of our team and members of the public is of paramount importance. We instill a positive culture throughout our organisation because everyone deserves to work in a safe environment. We have recently invested in two defibrillator machines to be fitted in our welfare units. This means that no matter where we are working, rural or not, we will always have access to a defibrillator machine. In conjunction with this, we have a minimum of two first aiders on each site.

Less than 1 in 10 people in the UK survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. By having a defibrillator in the workplace and trained colleagues in CPR, we can play an important part in helping more people survive a cardiac arrest. Research shows that a defibrillator is most effective when administered within the first minute of a victim collapsing, the survival rate can be as high as 90%. Deploying a defibrillator within 3 – 5 minutes of collapse produces a survival rate as high as 50% – 70%.

Shell GTL

At C.W. Surfacing we are committed to decreasing our carbon emissions and the impact our operations have on the environment. We have recently switched our entire fleet of construction plant to Shell GTL as an alternative to diesel, which is just one innovation on this roadmap.
The manufacturing process for Shell GTL produces more consistent and uniform molecules compared to conventional crude oil refining. It also has improved combustion properties inside standard diesel engines, helps reduce emissions of air pollutants and is free of unwanted components such as sulphur, metals, and aromatics, making it non-toxic and less harmful to the environment.
Shell GTL Fuel is more biodegradable than conventional diesel. OECD 301 and 307 tests have shown that GTL Fuel can be classified as ‘readily biodegradable’ and was not detectable in soil 51 days after being introduced. Under criteria recognised by the European Chemicals Agency, Shell GTL Fuel is classified as having health and environmental benefits, this is because Shell GTL isn’t harmful if inhaled, fumes pose less risk of eye irritation, there is less risk of skin irritation and it doesn’t cause significant organ damage through prolonged or repeated exposure.

Safety First – Actros Lorries

Our two new Mercedes-Benz Actros First Edition lorries have arrived! Only 400 worldwide with only 33 in the UK.

At C.W. Surfacing, safety is our No.1 priority, and the Actros is the best lorry on the market. With new assistance systems such as the Proximity Control Assist, driver’s airbag and the fifth-generation Active Brake Assist you and your cargo are always safe when out on the road. The Actros can perform emergency braking when approaching stationary and moving objects, and perform partial or full braking for moving pedestrians, thus mitigating or even preventing accidents entirely.

The camera system comprises two high-resolution fold-up cameras that are mounted on the upper roof frame. Thank you to Samuel Scott at Advanced Vehicle Alarms, for adding integrated reversing camera into the multimedia cockpit screen, beacons and inverters for the drivers.

With a custom reflective wrap, this increases the safety features one step further. A big thank you to Sam Lishman Vinyl Signs and Designs for the reflective livery.

Thank you to Ben Williams at Sparshatt Truck and Van Ltd for supplying us with these unique vehicles!
